STOP STATE RACISM IN EUROPE !

ENLARGEMENT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION IN 2004.

The European Union enlarged with ten new member states in 2004, the reason for this enlargement was peace and stability on the European continent. The new member state Slovakia signed several treaties on economic affairs and human rights. These treaties were respected till the enlargement and right after the enlargement. At this moment they are not respected anymore.

FACT 1: LEGAL DISCRIMINATION ON THE BASES OF RACE.

Slovakia is the only country in the European Union that adopted legislation in 2007, which makes it possible to give people a juridical status of being inferior on the sole bases of their race. Nazi-Germany as well as the apartheid regime in South-Africa had similar laws. Slovakia introduced the concept of collective guilt in the European Union. Consequently Slovakia is the only country in the European Union where a Judge is able to make a verdict on the sole basis of race. (E.g. Person A has been murdered a Slovakian Judge can Judge that the perpetrator B is not subject to sentencing, because person A belongs to an inferior race.)

FACT 2: DISCRIMINATION ON ETHNICITY ( LANGUAGE LAW ).

Slovakia adopted a very controversial language law in 2009. This language law makes it illegal to use any language apart from Slovakian. According to this law an English language sign or advertisement in public is forbidden. It is evident that the sole purpose of this law is to create a legal ground for ethnic prosecution. Obviously the Slovakian authorities will only use this law to prosecute the autonomous Hungarian speaking population of Slovakia.

FACT 3: STERILISATION AND LOCKING UP OF ROMA PEOPE IN GHETTOS.

Roma women have been subject to sterilisation, without their consent or knowledge. The city council of Ostrovany recently built a wall around buildings that are inhabited by Roma people. Roma people in Slovakia are subject to open and undisguised discrimination. The Slovakian government incites people against Roma people. Jan Slota the secretary of the leading Slovakian government party made the following public statement: “Parasites have to be eliminated, and parasites are simply those who don't want to work, and the fact that among those people are 95% of all Gypsies is just reality”

FACT 4: OPEN WORSHIPING OF NAZI SYMBOLS.

Prime minister Fico - not to confuse with the convicted war criminal Tiso - has openly shown his admiration for racist groups such as Blood and Honour and the racist SNS. The Slovak ministry of interior has recently openly contacted the Slovenka Pospolitost, the Slovakian Hitler jugend that marches against the “untermenschen”. Slovakia has been founded in 1939 by Adolf Hitler. Due to international pressure the open admiration of its founder is not practised by the Slovakian government; however convicted war criminals such as Hlinka and Tiso are openly and officially honoured.

FACT 5: RACIST JUSTICE AND RACIST POLICE.

The Slovakian justice and police are not independent and do not guard its independence. Victims of hate crimes are, if they are courageous enough to report a hate crime to the police, often humiliated and not taken seriously. Slovakian police openly humiliates “ Untermenschen”. The Slovakian police is not a representation of the Slovakian autonomous population.

FACT 6: SEVERAL CONVICTIONS OF SLOVAKIA.

The European institutions addressed their concern to the State of Slovakia. (council of Europe, the European Commission, the Human Rights court of Luxemburg) Human right organizations condemned Slovakia’s state racism. In contrary to West-European democracies, the Slovakian government simply neglects these condemnations. The European mother party of Fico the SMER has judged the SMERs cooperation with an open racist party and sanctioned SMER by excluding it for six months. The relations with several European nations and Slovakia are tensed.

FACT 7: PUBLIC STATEMENTS OF THE SLOVAKIAN GOVERNMENT.

The president of the Slovakian governmental party Mr Slota made the following public statement.

"Hungarians are the cancer of the Slovak nation, without delay we need to remove them from the body of the nation."

These kinds of statements can be made without any societal or juridical consequences in Slovakia. What is even worse is that these statements are not even made, but that people follow these statements and act upon it.

FACT 8: VICTIMS OF SLOVAKIAN STATE RACISM.

The Acts of the Slovakian government, such as inciting people against people of an other race already resulted in horrible acts. In 2006 a student Malina Hedwig was beaten up in public, for the sole reason of not speaking Slovakian. In 2008 the Slovakian police beated an innocent ethnic Hungarian teenager half to death, without any justification. In 2008 gypsies have been murdered by supposed racist attackers in the village of Tatárszentgyörgy, which is only 250 kilometres away from the Slovak capital Bratislava. The Slovakian government never distanced itself from public statements such as:

“The gypsy problem can be solved with a small courtyard and a long whip”

Due to the fact that the Slovakian government does not dissociate oneself from these statements, the Slovakian governmental is morally responsible for these hate crimes. These kinds of public statements are without a precedent in the European Union.

CONDEMN RACISM, CONDEMN SLOVAKIA!

Racism in an open and legal form is reprehensible and does not belong in the 21st century. These shameful acts are unthinkable in the Netherlands and should be unthinkable in the European Union. Condemning state racism is not only a task of European politicians, European institutions and of European courts. In first instance it is a task of the European citizen to express their concerns and openly condemn Slovakia.

Slovakia has in fact betrayed the European Union, by changing the rules of the game during the game and because it is simply ignoring fundamental human rights.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

· You can protest at the representation of the Slovakian government. ( Slovakian Embassy )

· You can address your concerns to your supplier. Please verify whether a product comes from Slovakia. Do no accept a “Made in Europe” inscription! You have the right to know whether you support state racism or not. It is also better to avoid Slovakia for business and pleasure. Please boycott Slovakian products.

· Please address your concern at your political representative. Consult with your association or your organization about ways to express your concerns about Slovakia tainting Europe’s Future.
